DINOSAUR PROJECT!!!
Dear Parents,
All the students in second grade have started their study on Dinosaurs. Within Chapter 7 in our science book, we are discussing different types of dinosaurs and the fossils that have been left behind for all of us to find. I am asking the students to complete a science project to coincide with this Chapter. Here is a list of things I expect the students to complete in this project.
- First, students will need to decide what dinosaur they want to research. They can choose any dinosaur that they find interesting.
- Second, students will write one short paragraph telling me the dinosaurs name, height and weight, where it would have lived (habitat), and if the dinosaur is a carnivore or herbivore (students will have to do research to find these answers). If you find any other interesting facts, please feel free to include them. The paragraph should be NEATLY written on lined paper!!! In the past some students have asked if they could type the paragraph and that is fine if they are the ones typing it!!!
- Third, students will create a diorama for the dinosaur they have chosen. The diorama should be constructed inside an OLD SHOEBOX. If you cannot find a shoebox, please use something similar in size. I am limited on space to display these projects!!! Students can make their dinosaurs out of clay, paper mache, or any other creative idea they may come up with (If the student does not have time or materials to make the dinosaur, they can put in a toy dinosaur and spend extra time working on the scenery). Students should then decorate the diorama and try to make it look like a dinosaur habitat.
- Students will be graded on the accuracy and neatness of the paragraph and diorama. STUDENTS make sure to use complete sentences and use your best handwriting.
- You can do a Google image search for some great ideas on how to construct your diorama. Of course, these are just ideas. Some of them are very elaborate and I don’t expect something that detailed, it is supposed to be a great learning experience that is FUN!!!
The project is due on Friday, January 24, 2025. They will look beautiful in the hallway for open house!!! PLEASE do not turn in these projects until the DUE DATE because I will have no room to put them until then. Students have fun with this project, and I know your best work will come out!!!
GOOD LUCK and if you have any questions, please write me a note or you can email me at kalpind@stthecla.com.
