A note from Fr. Kevin As I mentioned my first weekend here: our goal is for us to become saints, to grow in our love of Jesus and of God. Prayer and the sacraments help us do this. I mentioned I am asking every parishioner to spend at least ten to fifteen minutes in prayer every day. Sometimes I will ask parishioners to do certain prayers as part of this ten to fifteen minutes. Now is one of these times! For those who do not know, each diocese (local church in a region) has a patron for their diocese. The patroness of our diocese is St. Anne. St. Anne is the mother of our Blessed Mother and thus the grandmother of Jesus, our Savior. As I mentioned before, I have a special devotion to St. Anne. Growing up I attended St Anne parish in Monroe, MI. I have felt her guide me to be a priest in our diocese and even to this assignment here at St Thecla! The people of France had a great devotion to her. When the French came to Detroit they brought this devotion with them. The first Catholic Church built in Michigan and Detroit was dedicated in her honor. We also have an archdiocesan shrine to St. Anne as part of the basilica of St Anne in Detroit. Each year they host a special novena and celebrations in her honor at their parish. A diocesan patron has great power. We can receive many graces and blessings through their intercession and prayers. God wants to guide us, protect us, and give us life through the intercession of our patroness, St. Anne! Therefore I am asking that every parishioner pray a litany to St. Anne each day for the novena. The litany is below. A novena is a set of prayers for nine straight days. St. Anne’s feast day is on Tuesday July 26th. Therefore I am asking everyone to start the novena on Sunday July 17th and pray the litany for nine straight days. I will be doing this as well. It would end the day before her feast day. If you live as a family, pray it together as family! Before praying the litany, take a moment and call to mind your own personal intentions. Also pray for our parish intentions. Pray that we reach our goal of becoming the saints we are called to be. St. Anne, pray for us!
